Ordering repeat prescriptions
The easiest and quickest ways to order repeat prescriptions are:
- using your NHS account (through the NHS website or in the NHS App)
- using the GP online system: Systmonline
These accounts show you all your repeat medicine and dosage and you can choose the ones you need.
You can also:
- fill out a repeat prescriptions request form
- bring the paper form to the surgery, when we are open.
We no longer accept requests for repeat prescriptions by telephone. This change prevents errors being made and leaves the telephone lines free for urgent matters. Please speak to our Dispensary team if you are worried about how this change may affect you.
We currently take repeat prescription requests by email, however this is not our preferred method and we encourage the use of the NHS app for all ordering requirements.
Collecting your prescription
Dispensing patients
You can usually collect your prescription from the pharmacy 5 working days after you have ordered it.
Pharmacy patients
You will need to choose a pharmacy to collect your prescription from. We call this nominating a pharmacy.
You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time:
- on the app or website where you order repeat prescriptions
- at your GP practice
- at any pharmacy that accepts repeat prescriptions
You will need to allow us 3 working days to process your repeat prescription, plus any additional working days required by your chosen Pharmacy to dispense this to you.
If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.
The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.
If you would like to speak to someone at the GP surgery about your prescription:
- phone our pharmacist after 10am on 01462 417377
The majority of repeat medications require you to come in for a regular reviews, usually 3, 6 or 12 monthly.
We will contact you via SMS (if possible), at least 8 weeks before you medication review is due to organise the appropriate monitoring tests. These will usually consist of a blood test and a blood pressure check but sometimes we may need to check your urine too.
If you fail to organise these monitoring tests, we will attempt a second time to contact you via the telephone to organise the appropriate tests.
After two failed attempts to contact you and organise the required tests, it is likely you will no longer be able to request your medication via the NHS app. We have not removed any medications from your repeat items however as a patient safety measure, until the monitoring tests have been completed, you cannot request via the app and will need to contact the surgery via the telephone to order.
It is very unlikely that we would ever refuse medication however some medications can be harmful if not monitored correctly, so we would need to seek the advice of a GP before being able to issue medication that has passed its review date.

Take it to the pharmacy you got it from or bring it in to the surgery. Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet.
As qualified healthcare professionals, pharmacists can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:
- coughs
- colds
- sore throats
- tummy trouble
- aches and pains
They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.
Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. You do not need an appointment.
Most pharmacies have a private consultation room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff without being overheard.
